Recently we uncovered a lightly used 2016 Shelby GT-H Rent-A-Racer for sale out in California, but if you want a crack at a brand-new example there appears to be only one place to buy it. This week at Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, Florida, one such example will hit the auction block and it is expected to bring in up to $150,000.
“To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Shelby GT350H, Hertz and Shelby American have partnered again to offer a modern 2016 Shelby GT-H Mustang, available through the Hertz Adrenaline Collection at select U.S. airports,” says Mecum Auctions. “Of the 140 to be built, only one will be offered to the public as a brand-new vehicle, and it will be sold at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee.”
Each 50th anniversary GT-H began life as 2016 Mustang GT, which made the journey from Flat Rock, Michigan, to Shelby American in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they gained a variety of appearance upgrades, including gold Le Mans stripes, a Shelby vented hood, GT-H rocker panels, a carbon fiber front splitter, a carbon fiber rear spoiler and carbon fiber accent plates. On the performance side of things renters were delighted by Ford Performance cat-back exhausts, Ford Performance Handling Packs, staggered wheels and a Michelin Pilot tires.
“For nearly 100 years, understanding our customers’ needs and interests has remained at the forefront of our business,” Matt Jauchius, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Hertz Global Holdings, said when the car was announced. “This special 50th anniversary edition of the Ford Shelby GT-H not only underscores our commitment to deliver a fun and personalized rental experience, but it also has helped Hertz become the premium brand it is today. It’s sure to be an exhilarating drive for anyone who has the chance to get behind the wheel of this one-of-a-kind ride.”
