It has been one hell of a tornado season already for the Mid West, with many huge storms striking populated areas and wreaking untold destruction. The latest city to be hit was Joplin, Missouri, a major population center in the southwest corner of the state. Old Route 66 cuts through the middle of Joplin, as did an EF5 tornado that tore down much of the city and has left over 130 people dead, and over 150 are still missing.
In times of tragedy like this, people can look to small things for hope. When a tornado devastated much of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a brief video of a Mustang driving out of the wreckage was a small reminder that miracles do happen. This image of a 2006 Saleen Mustang found on Corral.net, the only one ever built with a glass roof, has emerged from the wreckage of Joplin, and perhaps it will remind and inspire us again.
Most of the damage that occurred to the Saleen appears to have been at the back end, with the bumper and trunk lid bearing the brunt of the damage. The front appears a little worse for wear, but mostly intact. This was apparently the Saleen press car, loaded with every option and the only one ever built with the glass roof option.
The owner also had a Ford Lightning damaged in the storm, but him and his family survived the storm intact, and that’s the most important part. And after seeing the damage done to other cars around Joplin, nevermind the devastation of the entire city suffered, we’d say this Saleen was one of the lucky ones. Hopefully there are some more miracles waiting to be uncovered as well.
