If you’ve been following closely, you know that Whipple Superchargers developed its new Gen 5 supercharger kit specifically for the 2018 Mustang GT and its third-generation, dual-fuel Coyote 5.0-liter engine. In early testing, a new Mustang fitted with the prototype supercharger generated 668 rear-wheel horsepower when set for only 10 pounds of boost in deference to California’s 91-octane pump gas.
With those impressive results in the ether, you might have been wondering just how well a 2018 Mustang GT with this new 3.0-liter blower might run at the drag strip? Well, thanks to a new video, we now have an inkling of the potential of the Gen 5 compressor on the latest 5.0-liter engine.
In just his third pass down the track, Dustin Whipple wheeled the 10-speed automatic-equipped pony car to a 10.48 at 134.60 mph. Its only other mods were a pair of Driveshaft Shop halfshafts, a BMR Suspension driveshaft safety loop, BMR cradle lockout bushings, and a set of Racestar 17×9.5-inch wheels fitted with Hoosier slicks. The mid-10-second run is all the more impressive as the car was burning that weak Cali high-octane and spinning to only 7,200 rpm with a 3.875-inch, six-rib blower pulley.
The upside-down design of the system allows for a massive intercooler, which should keep discharge temps more stable and detonation at bay. Combined with the more efficient compressor based on a 3/4 rotor pack, this system packs the potential for even quicker times with better fuel and higher revs.

“The dual-pass intercooler allows for incredible cooling capacity, while the large intercooler fittings don’t cut down flow, again another modification that wouldn’t help as much on the street, but will certainly make a difference at the strip,” Dustin recently told us.
It appears that rang true while testing the prototype unit and calibration. Lethal Performance plans to install the production system on its in-house 2018 Mustang project and we hope to detail the process and results here, so stay tuned.
