Can you feel it? We can almost hear the rumble of its Active Valve Performance Exhaust as the 475-horsepower, Highland Green muscle machine roars through the streets of San Francisco. That’s right. The Bullitt is almost here, and as you can see above, the first example officially drove off the production line at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant late last week.
This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool. — Darrell Behmer, Ford
That means the first example should soon be ready for its generous buyer. As you might recall, the first Bullitt out of the chamber (VIN 001)sold at Barrett-Jackson for $300,000, 100 percent of which benefitted Boys Republic, a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community, that helps troubled young people.
The first 2019 Mustang Bullitt rolled off the line at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, late last week. That means it is ever closer to driving off dealer lots and onto the streets.
For the rest of us, this limited-edition pony car starts out at $46,595, which gets you a ride that Ford engineers designed as the ultimate driver’s Mustang for the street, and it looks undercover clean too.
“This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer, said when the car was introduced. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang — devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything — it’s just cool.”
