Formula Drift Champion and esteemed Mustang ambassador Vaughn Gittin Jr. ended the 2015 drifting season on a down note, sitting out the final race after a crash in the prior event left his pony car unrepairable. There was good reason Gittin decided to sit out the end of the season, however, as he was due a brand new Mustang from the good people at Ford.
Well Gittin is back, and his Mustang is better and badder than ever before. Both look ready to return to the championship podium after a long absence, and with 900 horsepower under the hood, the competition will be hard pressed to keep them away.
That 900 horsepower is more than any of Gittin’s previous competition-spec rides, and weighing in at just 2,800 pounds, it’s a whole lotta go for a rather svelte ride. It’s pretty obvious that Ford isn’t messing around anymore, and the Blue Oval really wants to put Gittin back in the winner’s circle. While he has seven checkered flags under his belt, Gittin’s last championship title was back in 2010, and he’s since faced an uphill battle against a wide range of talented competitors.
But his new Mustang looks like it will change all of that, as the video shows the drift champion kicking the back end out with seemingly no effort. It’s intimidating how quickly this Mustang gets sideways, and anybody other than a pro like Gittin would probably have a hard time even keeping this monster in a straight line.
Suffice to say, we’re expecting big things from the Mustang drifting master in 2016.
