Will Ford fans ever tire of the legendary Fox body Mustang? Don’t count on it. If anything, these nimble muscle cars are more popular than ever, with many Mustang fans buying, restoring, and modifying these cars to relive the heydays for their youth. It has been remarkably cheap and easy to get crazy amounts of horsepower out of these old 5.0 engines, as we’re about to see in this next video.
Mustangs Daily filmed this video from the guys over at Chrome ‘N’ Creations dyno testing their Top Notch Mustang, a lightweight Fox-body that cranks out an impressive 855 horsepower and 667 ft-lbs of torque.
Initially announced over a year ago, the Top Notch Mustang is still a work in progress, albeit one that is almost done. This race-prepped track star weighs in at just 2,500 pounds, and is fitted with such top-end equipment like a G-Force 5-speed transmission and a Currie 9-inch rearend. All good things, as CnC intends on taking the Top Notch Mustang to numerous racing events later on this year.
Of course the heart and soul of this project is an Aluminator 5.0 crate engine topped with a Vortech Supercharger. Initial guesstimates placed the horsepower number at around 700 ponies, but a little time on the dyno blew away those initial numbers. With 855 horsepower at wheels, and a curb weight of only 2,500 pounds, the Top Notch Mustang will be a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack. If you see this car in your rear view, you better get out of its way.
