Video: The Totally Custom ’71 Pegasus Mustang Built By Goolsby

Jonathan Goolsby and Josh Henning of Goolsby Customs have been building custom cars for approximately the last decade; perhaps none sweeter than this trick 1971 Mustang christened ‘Pegasus’. The car is owned by Buddy Shores and features an absolute ton of cool pieces. ScottieDTV recently caught up with the car at the Goodguys Nashville Nationals with video camera in hand – so let’s check it out!

The car started life as a jacked-up yellow Mustang with a set of Cragar wheels underneath, and the Goolsby team started its resurrection by doing a monster burnout before completely disassembling the car and taking eight inches of length out of the chassis – five in the front and three out of the rear.

The fenders, hood, and quarter panels were sectioned to give the car its new profile. The drip-rails and moldings were removed to give the car a new look from the side profile.

The rearend of the car has seen a ton of custom touches – the back glass has been laid down to a sharper angle, while a spoiler was fabricated to give it a look similar to a Pantera, with a new custom taillight panel and other neat touches to make it a one-of-a-kind look. A complete modern-style custom interior from M&M Interiors was installed, and it was on to the mechanicals.

The fun part came when it was time to assemble the driveline. A new chassis from the Roadster Shop sits underneath, with a full coil-over suspension riding on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Nutek wheels and Pirelli tires.Of course, no Pro Tourer like this would be complete without a honkin’ set of brakes – to that end, Wilwood‘s finest rests at all four corners.

And what Mustang would be complete without a sweet engine between the framerails? When the car was built four years ago, the 5.0L Coyote powerplant was still in the fledgling stages of acceptance in the marketplace, and the Goolsby team managed to get their hands on a 5.0L before the engine was even available to the general public in the Mustang. This is an awesome car, and if you’re interested in checking out some more of the details, head on over to Goolsby Customs’ website

Thanks to ScottieDTV for the video.
