Video: Tanner Foust, The SVT Raptor, And The Nurburgring

We’re not quite sure what started the worldwide obsession with Germany’s Nurburgring racetrack, but we have become big fans of the big track ourselves. Automakers from every corner of the Earth regularly bring their latest and greatest cars to the Nurburgring for testing and evaluation. While there’s nothing odd about seeing a fleet of Porsches or Mercedes out there, professional racer Tanner Foust brought something a little bit bigger to play with.

The Top Gear host was put behind the wheel of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor supertruck, and he had a chance to unleash it on the ‘Ring, where it garnered more than its fair share of attention.

And why not? Pickup trucks are a uniquely American invention, and while you can buy pickups elsewhere in the world, they are more popular here than anywhere. The Raptor is also only available in America, though those with enough money can import one pretty much anywhere. We’re not sure why this particular Raptor was in Europe, but Foust thought it was a good idea to take it to the Nurburgring.

For the uninitiated, the Nurburgring usually hosts exotics and supercars and test vehicles as well. It is a race track after all. But as Foust says, the Germans in the forest who regularly watch the ‘Ring tend to get excited about something different and something new, like the Raptor. Alas, the actual footage of Foust driving isn’t nearly enough to sate our appetite. Hopefully Ford follows this video up with some more Raptor racing action.
