Video: More Details On The 2015 Mustang Convertible

The Ford Mustang was always envisioned as a convertible from the very beginning, and droptop models make up about 20% of all Mustang sales. More importantly than that, the Mustang is currently Ford’s only convertible vehicle, anywhere in the world. When you look at it like that, suddenly the Mustang convertible seems like serious business.

That’s why Blue Oval engineers sunk a lot of effort into improving every aspect of the 2015 Mustang convertible experience, from a faster-folding top to more trunk space. But how’d they do it? This video keys us in on the details.

The 2015 Mustang trunk not only has a bigger opening, but more space as well, enough to fit two sets of golf clubs inside. Designers also gave the convertible Mustang slightly different lines to accentuate the flatop look and width of the new model. More space and a unique look are cool, but the best new feature is functional.

The single-latch convertible top feature is so surprisingly simple and clever, it’s a wonder no one thought of it sooner. By grabbing and twisting a single, center-mounted lever, two hooks on the outside of the top latch or unlatch; no more reaching across the passenger’s seat to put the top down.

The top itself is made from cloth for a quieter, more affluent feel, and it folds away in half the time of the outgoing model. Put it all together, and you get a more complete and competitive Mustang convertible than any before it.
