We love Jay Leno’s garage – it’s a collection of the ultimate gearhead’s ultimate cars, and an assortment of the vehicles we’d expect every automotive enthusiast to own if they had the type of deep pockets Leno has amassed over his career in television. He’s always putting out great videos that detail the goings-on in the facility with some of the awesome cars of the world – many of which are in his collection.

So when Jay sat down recently and recorded this video of his Top Ten Mustangs in honor of the nameplate’s 50th Anniversary, we sat up and took notice. After all, to see what a guy with no budgetary limitations would purchase given the opportunity,  we took it as a learning experience.

The list includes –

• The 1964 1/2 Mustang
• The ’66 Shelby GT350
• The Shelby GT350 Racecar
• Steve McQueen’s 390-powered Highland Green Bullitt
• The 1969-70 Boss 302 Mustang
• The 1966 K-Code Mustang
• The 1984 turbocharged four-cylinder SVO
• The 2012 Laguna Seca Mustang
• The 2011-14 Shelby GT500
• The 2015 Mustang 5.0L

That’s actually a list of eleven cars (if you count the original concept machines as one entry), but who’s counting? It’s interesting to note that the vast majority of the cars he selected are from the first-generation Mustang platform. That’s to be expected from someone who grew up in that era. We’re willing to bet if you took a poll of the Gen-X and Y staffers here at Power Automedia, there would be a large selection of Fox-platform cars like the LX 5.0L notchback, the ’87-’93 GT, and even the ’99-’04 New Edge cars towards the top of our list.

One thing is for certain – the debut of the new 2015 Mustang platform is one of the most talked-about automotive events of the year. We can’t wait until they start showing up on dealer lots, and subsequently in the streets and on the dragstrips and road courses of the country. A new era of Mustang performance is upon us!
