Video: Jay Leno Tests The Boss 302 Mustang

Legendary funnyman and gearhead Jay Leno knows a thing or two about cars. Not many people have a car collection quite like Leno’s, which rivals that of major car museums. Nor do they have the variety of vehicles under Leno’s car, from the brass area of automobiles to contemporary vehicles of every kind.

Yet it is only now that Leno is putting out a video of himself getting behind the wheel of the 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302, a car with a legendary namesake but with modern mechanicals. To find out what makes the Boss 302 tick, Leno talked with lead Mustang engineer Dave Pericak to uncover the secrets of the Boss’s success.

Jay Leno already got some seat time behind the wheel of the 2013 Shelby GT500, but Leno admits to being an old school Boss fan. The video focuses on everything from the engine to the suspension to the history of the Boss brand, and for those already familiar with this car front to back, there isn’t anything new. Just the same big brakes, high-output 5.0 engine and quad exhaust setup you’re already familiar with.

In other words, you can skip the first nine-and-a-half minutes if you’re just looking to see Leno’s driving impressions. His takeaway? There is nothing like the feel or sound of a naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Leno even admits to liking the Boss 302 more than the 662 horsepower Shelby GT500, calling it a more “complete package.” Who are we to argue?
