During the summer of 2015, the Ford Mustang finally arrived in the United Kingdom amidst great fanfare and celebration. Available for the first time from the factory in a right-hand drive format, all the Queen’s subjects can now get behind the wheel of the iconic Ford Mustang with either the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder or the always-glorious 5.0-liter V8.

It’s not as though the whole of the U.K. didn’t already know that the Mustang had finally arrived, but Ford has gone ahead and given the Mustang its own advertisement in its new “Unlearn” marketing campaign. It’s a distinctly British advertisement for an iconic American car.

Despite the thick British accent and casual mention of the M-1, the country’s oldest inter-urban highway, the B-roll footage seems to be almost exclusively taken on American soil. Last we checked, the U.K. wasn’t exactly known for its winding desert roads. Not that the Brits seem to mind all that much, as Ford had 2,000 orders for its pony car before the first right-hand drive model ever left the production line. There’s now approximately a 12-month waiting list in the U.K. for a new Mustang, and it’s the same story in Australia.

Here at home, the Ford Mustang has soundly trounced its contemporary competitors with over 122,000 sales in the U.S. Just under 7,000 Mustangs found homes with our neighbors to the north, too. The Mustang is an undeniable global sales success, and we hope Ford delivers a more authentic-feeling advertisement in the U.K. next time around. Show us the White Cliffs of Dover, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace, not stock footage of nameless roads some 5,000 miles away.
