Detroit may be the Motor City, but it has fallen on hard times in the past few decades. Yet as of late, Detroit has had a renewed sense of purpose and hope as American automakers surge back to prominence. What might help Detroit make a full-fledged comeback is an event designed to attract and entertain the youth, to show the kids what Detroit is, and can be.
The ESPN X-Games event has announced the finalists for cities bidding to host the 2014 Summer X-Games, among them Detroit. To show that Motor City still has what it takes to host a hell of a good time, the city put together this awesome video.
Detroit’s competition for the 2014 Games is tough to say the least, other cities on the list of finalists include Austin, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, and Charlotte, North Carolina. None of those cities have the automotive history that Detroit does. Since the Summer X-Games now include motorized RallyCross events (among others) in the competition, Detroit seems like a shoe-in for winning the contest.
Even so, this video makes the case yet again that Detroit is X-Games worthy featuring, among other madness, a rally-spec Ford Fiesta drifting on the roof of Cobo Hall. At the historic Packard Plant, motorcycles and bicyclists get their groove on in a most Xtreme fashion. This video showcases Detroit’s indomitable spirit, and should definitely stir the voting pool if there’s any fans of high performance on the selection panel. .
