Back in the 1960s, cars like the Shelby GT350 were bought by well-off owners who wanted a street-legal race car. Of course many of these GT350s ended up racing on the track anyways, and drivers thought nothing of bumping and nudging the competition out of the way in order to win. These days though are a different story entirely. Most Shelby GT350 owners won’t even take their former race cars out of the garage, never mind down to the track for a day of racing.
Craig Davies however, is no such man, as this video demonstrates. Rocking an original 1966 Shelby GT350 fastback, Davies quickly moves through a field of other classic race cars at England’s Brands Hatch Circuit. From the video we’d say this guy knows how to drive.
Davies has to start from the back of the pack, having qualified 17th due to a flat tire. He doesn’t stay at the rear for very long, blowing past about half the field within the first 30 seconds or so of competition. It isn’t like he’s competing against Minis either; the field is full of cars like the Chevy Corvette and Camaro, what looks like an old Lamborghini, and even a Dodge Challenger.
Yet the Shelby drives past them as though they’re standing still, and then it is up to Davies to battle it out for the top spot. This is nearly 15 minutes of full-fledged classic racing car action, and the sound of that HiPo 289 screaming at high RPMs is the kind of tune we want for a ringtone. Watch this one with the volume cranked up.
