Last year we showed you a short video of Chris Allen’s turbocharged ’06 Mustang GT drifting for the American Muscle 2015 calendar shoot. This year, we’re showing you another video of his brute S197, and he’s made some changes to his GT – including a sponsorship from AM.
The video features AM’s Justin Dugan interviewing Allen on the changes he’s made to his GT since last year and how those changes have improved his drifting. Dugan asks “What’s changed since we last time we saw you E-Town?” to which Allen replied: “The car’s a lot different. It may not look totally different, but underneath, we’ve done a lot to it.”
Some of those changes include SR coilovers from AM for grip in the rear and a set of AM shorty headers in lieu of the traditional turbo manifolds, which hook up to Allen’s single Garrett turbocharger to save some weight.
Allen explains “We’re also running a manual (steering) rack and an electric power-assistied steering setup. It really helps to get the car turned back around faster. We were burning through power steering pumps every season, so now that it’s electric, we’ve shaved some weight – and we don’t have to worry about reservoirs.”
Allen races in the USDrift ProAM drift series on the East Coast and with help from American Muscle we’re hoping to see him make some waves in the series soon. As Allen put it – “It’s grassroots racing and drift racing at it’s best.”
