The guys over at American Muscle have been very busy regarding their new project build, a 2012 Mustang GT known as Project Blackout. They just got started on their new Mustang earlier this month with the completion of Stage 1 (out of 4) and gained an impressive 60 HP by installing a JLT Cold Air Intake, JLT Oil Separator, and adding a BAMA Custom Tune at 93 Octane. Exterior mods consist of a CDC (Classic Design Concepts) chin spoiler and a black retro upper and lower grille. With a nice start on Stage 1, they drove it down to Cecil Count Dragway and ran a 12.45 quarter mile at 115 mph.
Check out the video of Stage 2 underway and completed. They beefed up the exhaust with Pypes’ X-Pipe & Super System Catback Exhaust. Under the hood, they added an Accel Super Coil On Plug Kit for a bit more spark and better MPG’s. While sitting inside the cockpit of the new ‘Stang, a Hurt MT-82 Billet Plus 2 Throw Shifter. To really set off the exterior, they’ve added the AMR Charcoal Wheels that were the most popular among AM’s Facebook fans, wrapped with NITTO Extreme Performance NT555 tires that are great for hooking at the track and running the streets.
More exterior modifications consist of Raxiom Smoked Projector Halo Headlights with smoked side marker lights. After that, it’s off to the vinyl room where vinyl tint is installed over the tail lights, the third brake light, and quarter marker. After the tint installation is complete, a rear black out panel is added to really set off the rear end of Project Blackout.
Finally, a dyno pull is a must to see how much power was added after the new modifications. Project Blackout put down a healthy 407-HP with 399 ft. lbs. of torque. That’s an impressive gain of 16+ horsepower and a 27+ gain in torque!
Out on the street it sounds mean and the Hurst short throw shifts crisply, sits lower, and looks better than the stock shifter. Also, the rumble of the Pypes exhaust gives it a muscle car tone that really ought to turn some heads. Back at Cecil County, the blacked out Mustang makes a 12.376 second quarter mile pass at 116.29 MPH. That’s not too shabby, considering the track is cold and wet. They shaved off a tenth from their previous time by a few simple mods. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Stage 3!
