My Ford Magazine recently sent video journalist Jeff Wise into the heart of the German countryside, with one directive – film this awesome 2013 Shelby GT500 on your trip over the no-speed-limit Autobahn. Oh, and make a stop at the Nurburgring while you’re at it. It’s an interesting take on how the insane power and brute force of the screaming, supercharged Shelby’s 662 horsepower went over in a land normally populated by much-more-refined, understated BMW M3’s and twin-turbo Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Coupes, and we’re glad to have the opportunity to go along for the ride.
With just two days alone with the car, and a great local videographer by the name of Daniel Byrne, Wise had to get right down to business. After picking the car up at Ford’s Cologne plant, then hustling it over many miles of autobahn he made it to the Nurburgring – which, amazingly, anyone with about $33 to burn can drive on! Wise spent the two days answering questions from observers at gas stops (and we’re sure there were many of due to the GT500’s penchant for gulping fuel when pushed hard) and even a trio of young boys who could manage to get out “Musta, Musta” when faced with the GT500’s presence as Wise performed a photo shoot at the end of his trip. All in all, an entertaining read, and certainly an entertaining video, as we doubt any of you will ever get the chance to roll the hides on a GT500 on the autobahn. Ahh..the life of a journalist. We’re trying to figure out where we sign up for a trip like this!
