Jon Lund and Ken Bjonnes of Lund Racing are two of the premier aftermarket tuners in the country, and they work very closely with Jake Long of Power By The Hour in Florida. The three are always bouncing ideas around, and when the 5.0L-powered 2011 Mustang GT hit the market, they hatched a plan to build a completely-streetable, bolt-on twin-turbo kit.
The car has already run a best quarter-mile time of 9.26 at 155 mph, run 206 mph at the Texas Mile, and won 5.0 Mustang Magazine’s King Of The Street competition at the NMRA event in Bowling Green, Kentucky last year. The car recently received a prototype Coyote hi-po engine block from Ford Racing Parts to test after running into durability issues with the stock block around 1,050 horsepower. Initial dyno runs netted a best of 1,266 rear-wheel horsepower from this incredible machine.

Bjonnes even told us, “So far it is currently the fastest Coyote at the Mile, but when we go back we hope to go much faster. I think I can go 225-230 depending on traction. Our kit comes with 60 mm turbos and will make well over 1,100 horsepower in that configuration, so there is no need for larger turbos except for maybe one percent of the people that buy it. The idea behind the kit is it comes ready to make great power on a bone stock engine and will scale up with the car without changing any parts beyond the fuel system.”
He is very proud of the steps the team took to design the system, noting that it has true cast turbo manifolds, a pair of TiAL MVS wastegates, a TiAL 50mm blow-off valve, stainless downpipes that interface with the factory exhaust, an air-to-water intercooler system, and all aluminum charge piping. In addition, fuel injectors, an SCT X3 tuner, and free remote dyno tuning from Lund Racing are all included with the price of the system. The first 20 kits get a free in-person tune from the Lund Racing boys. In short, this is one awesome Mustang, and if you have a new 5.0, yours could be just like this. If you’re going to the NMRA race in Bradenton next weekend you’ll get the chance to see it in person on the manufacturer’s midway.
