Hot hatch fans might feel a sense of melancholy on April 6, 2018, as the latest run of Focus RS production slides to a stop at the plant in Saarlouis, Germany. However, before the line builds its last RS, the plant will produce 50 right-hand-drive Heritage Editions for sale in the United Kingdom.
This latest model is the best RS we’ve ever produced. — Andy Barratt, Ford
As we recently let you know, these limited edition Deep Orange Focus RS are designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Escort nameplate in the UK, including its most respected model, the RS.
“The RS brand is hugely important to Ford and is recognized across the globe, however it has a special place in the hearts of UK Ford fans,” Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director, Ford of Britain, said. “This latest model is the best RS we’ve ever produced, so it seems a fitting tribute as we approach its 50th anniversary.”
While the Heritage Edition features a number of signature appearance upgrades, the most intriguing feature of the package is the factory application of Mountune’s FPM375 kit, which increases the engine’s output under Overboost from 350 to 375 horsepower and torque from 346 to 376 lb-ft of torque. These gains are courtesy of a revised calibration, a cold-air induction system, and a turbo recirculation valve.
Focus RS Heritage Edition Features
• Black rear spoiler
• Black door mirrors
• Black-forged alloy wheels
• Carbon fiber trim
• Gray-finish brake calipers
• Partial leather Recaro seats
• Mountune FPM375, includes calibration, cold-air intake, and turbo recirculation valve
• Quaife mechanical limited-slip front differential
• Right-hand drive
As they would say across the pond, the Heritage Edition is brilliant. However, these 375-horsepower, limited edition hot hatches are available exclusively to customers in the United Kingdom for £39,895 (about $55,000), so don’t get too excited if you live elsewhere. Just know the Brits are sending the Focus RS out in style.
