While checking out the forum over at Yellow Bullet, we found this amazing project that we had to share with you guys. We’re talking about this custom-made carbon fiber bodied jet boat, which is powered by a twin turbocharged 5.0 liter Coyote V8. This thing, is ridiculously badass.

The video above is merely a teaser in comparison to what’s been modified on this jet boat. First, the body (or hull if you’re into boats) is constructed completely out of carbon fiber, which was made as one piece in a vacuum mold. The owner chose this material because he wanted the lightest and fastest jet boat possible. And with a weight of only 325 pounds (not including the driver & engine), we’d have to say mission accomplished to that one.

The beginning stages of the build starts with test fitting the new 5.0 liter DOHC 32-valve V8.

From what we’ve gathered, father and son owners Al Turner and Greg Turner began the project together back in June of 2013 on the PerformanceBoats.com forums. The project was inspired by Al’s Kenne Bell supercharged ’11 Mustang GT, which ran a 9.40-second quarter mile at 140 mph. Both Greg and Al really saw the potential of Ford’s 5-liter V8, which is why they decided to replicate the engine’s setup in a custom-made jet boat.

The original plan was to build the 5.0 utilizing a 4.2 liter Mammoth series supercharger from Kenne Belle, with a goal of 1,200 horsepower.

As their project progressed, the original idea was replaced by the turbochargers in the picture above, which are twin second-generation Precision 64/66mm ball bearing turbochargers. The kit was built by Fluid Turbo Concepts out of Boynton, Flordia. They’re well known for building custom turbo kits for 5.0 liter equipped Mustangs, which is where the kit you see above originally stemmed from.

Apart from the obvious Ford Racing Cobra Jet intake manifold, the air-to-water intercooler for the turbochargers has been custom made by FTC as well, and it’s capable of handling over 2,500 horsepower.

Custom-made turbo manifolds were fabricated by FTC with the help of some others. They were first made by hand, then scanned, and finally 3-D printed. The entire turbo plumbing and intercooler assemblies have been ceramic coated to protect them from lake water elements.

The new twin-turbocharged 5.0 liter Coyote V8 uses a Ford factory PCM, which is tuned by Lund Racing to use E-85 fuel. Other than the obvious twin-turbo kit, the engine also uses custom turbo camshafts and iron-sleeves in the block. We think the build is extremely impressive, considering the engine is currently only tuned for low boost while they figure out the best setup.

There’s a ton more of information regarding Al and Greg’s boat build online, including three separate threads. Two of which are located here and here on the Yellow Bullet Forums, and the other being located here on PerformanceBoats.com. There’s also some recent pictures from a trip of the boat here on SoCalJetBoats.com.

We're excited to see what's in the future for Al and Greg's Twin Turbocharged Coyote Powered Jet Boat.
