After five long decades, the Ford Mustang is finally available to customers around the globe in more than 100 markets. This includes countries like the United Kingdom and Australia, which require right-hand drive vehicles for their roads. Production of right-hand drive Mustangs began last week in earnest, and with orders pouring in from around the world, it should surprise no one that the Mustang is the best-selling sports car through the first six-months of 2015, at least according to Ford.
Ford says that 76,123 new Mustangs were registered around the globe in 2015 , a 56% increase over the first six months of 2014, even though production of the right-hand drive models only just began. If Ford keeps this sales pace up, the Mustang could cross the 150,000 sales mark for the first time since 2007.
“Initial global response to the Mustang has been strong, and we are only in second gear,” said Stephen Odell, executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service. “We continue accelerating production and global reach with right-hand-drive models now coming out of the plant.”
There are nearly 2,000 eager Mustang buyers awaiting delivery in the UK, and over 3,000 orders in the books in Australia. Even with the Flat Rock Assembly Plant operating at full tilt some Aussies may have to wait until nearly 2017 to actually take delivery of their car. That’s just the tip of the iceberg too, as dozens of other markets place their own orders for the sixth-generation Mustang.
Meanwhile Ford also revealed the most popular color choices by market, with Europeans preferring Magnetic Grey and Race Red. China also prefers the hot hue of Race Red, but the U.S. and Middle East opt for Black more often than not. The one unifying factor here is a love of the Ford Mustang, a love the rest of the world can finally share.
