These past few weeks have been a whirlwind for drifting sensation Vaughn Gittin Jr. Gittin and the RTR drift team participated in a European drifting tour. As ambassadors of one of the fastest growing forms or motorsport in the world, Gittin put on shows in three different cities including Rotterdam, Holland, Loheach, France, and Lausitzring, Germany.
Next up for Gittin was round six of the Formula D series, where he qualified number one. Looking to climb further up the points ladder, Gittin made it all the way to the round of eight. After appearing to have won the round, he was eliminated on a controversial call, after the decision of the judges was overturned on protest. Calm and cool as usual, but rightfully upset, Gittin commented on the events that may have cost him a run for the 2013 Formula D title, “Everything my team and I had control over was pretty flawless and our Ford Mustang was loving the high speeds that this track required. For a while there, we saw our Championship hopes come back to light until the protest. While we do not agree with Formula Drift’s ruling of the protest, we unfortunately have no choice but to accept it. I am looking forward to Irwindale where we look forward to finishing off the season on a more positive note.”
Gittin wins in China
Before leaving Texas, Gittin and the RTR crew along with Ryan Tuerck, the Monster Energy Models, and Jarod DeAnda headed to Fort Hood. There the RTR crew put on one of their famous “Smoke Shows” for the troops stationed at the military base. Gittin says the smiles and entertainment this provides to troops serving our country makes all the long miles of travel and sleep deprivation worthwhile.
Gittin then headed to China, where much like many other Western ideas and activities, drifting is exploding in popularity. In China Gittin and the RTR team participated round two of the World Drift Series, China’s drifting series. In front of a crowd of 20,000 screaming fans at the Luoyang New District Stadium, and a national TV audience, Gittin took his second win of the season in the series, continuing his domination of it.
As we head into fall and the close of the Formula D season, Gittin prepares to head to Irwindale looking for a win in the final round of the 2013 Formula Drift season.
