Saleen’s S351 Flagship Enters Production

Last week, Steve Saleen finally reacquired the company that carries his name, Saleen Automotive. He merged Saleen with his other supercar project, SMS Supercars, landing $3 million in investment cash in the process. With the merger complete, Saleen is wasting no time getting back into the swing of things, delivering the same quality of Mustang performance we’ve all come to know and love.

Motor Authority reports that production of Saleen’s newest flagship Mustang, the S351, began this week in earnest, and that isn’t even the most exciting news to come out of Saleen. For the first time in over a decade, a new Mustang bearing the S351 name will be produced.

With the merger complete, production of the supercharged 5.8 liter, 700 horsepower S351 Mustang can officially get underway. Like all prior Saleen Mustangs, the S351 will focus on a custom suspension setup with 14-inch brakes, 20-inch rims, and a custom bodykit designed with aerodynamics in mind. Be prepared to shell out a shade over $82,000 for one of these wicked Mustangs. Details on all the specifics behind the car have been limited at best. We’re not yet sure what the specifics are on the engine, or anything else underneath the car. We’d be pretty sure that Saleen won’t disappoint us though.

That’s great news from Saleen, and it’s only the start apparently. Steve Saleen went on to remark that the fresh investment money will allow him to start developing a new line of supercars, and perhaps even an electric sports car as well. Would Steve Saleen dare to build an electric Mustang? Or does he have something else in mind? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
