Roush Drivers Entering Rolex GT Competition

As this weekend’s Watkins Glen 200 draws closer, some interesting things are coming to light. A new entry in the GT class is being fielded by TPN Motorsports. The #11 Ford Mustang will be driven by David Ragan and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., according to the race entry list.

Racing Today has also reported that Stenhouse Jr., let the cat out of the bag last Saturday in a press conference in Iowa.  Stenhouse is currently the Nationwide Series points leader. Both he and Ragan drive cars fielded by Roush Fenway Racing.

“We’re giving David and Ricky an opportunity to test under the GRAND-AM/Roush system,” said Roush Performance team manager Brad Francis. “Watkins Glen, where the Rolex Series runs in combination with the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, is the perfect opportunity to test the waters.”

TPN Motorsports is the organization built by veteran Grand Am racer, Tom Nastasi, who took over operations of the Blackforest Motorsports team after is founder passed away. Reportedly, the #11 car has been in the Roush-Fenway Racing shops in Concord, NC, to be prepped for this weekend’s event.

An official announcement is expected on Wednesday, perhaps with additional details. Roush’s roots in sports car racing reach back to 1982, so it will be interesting to see if The Cat in the Hat is dusting off an old and very successful hat, or not.
