One-Off Blue Angels Mustang Raises $400K for Youth Aviation

The one-of-one Blue Angels-themed special edition 2012 Mustang GT produced by Ford for auction at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association)  AirVenture event this past weekend sold for $400,000. A special auction is held each year to benefit the organization’s youth program, the EAA Young Eagles.

Featuring a visually arresting blue chrome exterior finish by Creations n’ Chrome, the custom Mustang draws inspiration from other aspects of the Navy’s elite flight demonstration team. From its screaming yellow accents on  the outside to the Blue Angels crest stitched into the leather Recaro racing seats on the inside, the Mustang is a fitting tribute to the precision flight team.

Proceeds from auction and and other fund raising efforts allow the EAA Young Eagles organization to provide free introductory flights to young people interested in aviation. Since 1992, more than 1.6 million youth have flown free. The Young Eagles also encourage the value of hard work, personal responsibility and enhanced technical skills.

Several unique one-off Mustangs have been donated for auction at previous events. Last year, a unique collaboration between Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby produced the SR-71 Mustang, a tribute to the legendary high altitude reconnaissance aircraft.  Previous years have seen the ‘Dearborn Doll’ and ‘AV8R’ Mustangs go to auction.

Ford vehicles sold at EAA AirVenture auction events, over the past five years, have raised more than $1.7 million to support the Young Eagles program.
