Here in America, home of the muscle car, finding and buying a cheap-but-restorable classic Mustang can be a daunting task. From overly-optimistic sellers to crusty-rusty hulks not worth much more than scrap, becoming the owner of an original Mustang isn’t cheap. Now imagine you have to ship one across 5,000 miles of ocean, and you can start to imagine what it costs for a resident of New Zealand to own a first generation Mustang.
The New Zealand Herald reports that one lucky couple who just won the national lottery have their eyes set on owning their long-time dream car, a classic Ford Mustang. This couple definitely has good taste.
The couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, plans to keep their day jobs and inform only close family and friends of the windfall. They won the Power Dip game and an undisclosed amount of money, though the number is reportedly in the millions of dollars. That should more than cover the cost of a few life upgrades, including trading in the family hatchback for a classic Ford Mustang.
The winning couple is reportedly very into classic cars, and the Mustang is at the top of their “do-want” list. Yet it is nice to see that they plan to keep their day jobs, and generally seem eager to just get that one car that most New Zealanders don’t have access. Here in America, a classic Mustang is typically not something we spot everyday, but not it’s not so rare that it’s worth getting too excited about. The unnamed couple will be replacing their old hatchback with a likely even older, but obviously cooler Mustang.
In New Zealand, you’re lucky to see one classic Mustang a year. Congrats to the winning couple on the new-found wealth and great taste in cars.
