Over the last three years, the team at Ford Performance has delivered on the promise of debuting an exciting lineup of vehicles that are not only designed to perform on the track, but also introduce the everyday Ford enthusiast to class-leading innovation and features that would normally be reserved for vehicles with a much higher price tag.
Enthusiasts are also being exposed to groundbreaking, cutting-edge technology and fuel-saving efficiency that make purchasing one of these Halo vehicles both a smart and easy decision.
We have already had the pleasure of watching many of these new vehicles roll off the assembly line for the first time, and many of us have even experienced the excitement of placing an order on one these cars or trucks, patiently waiting for that important phone call from our local Ford dealer that our performance vehicle has arrived and is ready for pickup.
“Our new global Ford Performance team ties together racing, performance vehicles and parts.” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, “It will allow us to more quickly introduce products and accessories that meet the needs of customers around the world on-road and on the track.”
Well we are now well into the 2017 calendar year, and we have been introduced to no less than 6 of the 12 performance vehicles that Ford has promised, and we are excited to find out what’s next.
But this also gives us some time to start thinking about the possibilities. And one of the most recent thoughts that consumers and journalists alike have been interested in is the possibility of expanding the RS lineup.
Will we see the iconic RS badge stitched into a Ford Performance SUV?
We already know how successful the Focus RS has been for Ford. But, would Ford ever consider releasing an RS-badged SUV into the mix? For example, manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW have performance SUV’s in their vehicle lineup, so why not Ford?
“If you did what you needed to do to make it perform the way that an RS should, the answer would be sure.” — Dave Pericak, Ford Performance
Well, it looks like Ford might just be open to the possibility of adding an RS Performance SUV to its already impressive lineup. In an interview, Ford Performance DirectorDave Pericakhad this to say about the RS brand:
“I think that we’ve seen, even in the US and globally, that people like aggressive-looking cars, they like sporty, they want the power and pick-up and engine improvement, so I think the answer is yes. SUV customers would appreciate performance for sure.”
Although no official plans have been announced by Ford, just the thought of bringing an AWD, Drift-Mode-capable SUV to our local winter wonderland has us intrigued…
