For many cars, racing stripes have become an integral part of its appearance and packaging. This extra badging helps these cars stand out as performance models, while adding a bit of flair and pizzazz to the vehicle. It’s also popular with drivers who drive slow cars but want the appearance of being fast. These days most performance cars, including the Ford Mustang, can be ordered with a variety of stripe package options.
But only the Shelby GT500 makes them mandatory, which is what makes this stripeless 2012 Shelby GT500 such an odd find. The Mustang News came across this stripe-delete Shelby for sale at Robert Horne Ford in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Ford is making a big deal about the Mustang’s nearly-endless customization options, including a variety of stripe options for all its models, from the base V6 to the might GT500. Stripes are standard issue for the GT500, though a stripe delete option is available, though rarely checked off. This Shelby has the side, hood, and roof stripes all deleted, leaving a white Mustang with black trim.
This particular Shelby has the electronics and navigation package, but other than the bodywork, grille, and emblems, this Shelby could almost pass for a standard V6 Mustang. And considering that all 2013 Mustang models will share much of the GT500’s front fascia, this stripe-deleted Shelby might blend in even better.
For our money, we actually like the stripe delete option, and it could even add value to the car down the road when it becomes a collectible. But what do you think? Yay or nay to racing stripes?
