High Voltage Hot Rods Building All-Electric ’66 Ford Mustang

Forget about purchasing a brand new Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt as your daily driving gas-saver and opt for something a little more old school. That’s right, the High Voltage Hot Rod shop plans on taking a classic ’66 Ford Mustang and turning it all-electric.

The guys at High Voltage Hot Rods shop plan on converting this 1966 Mustang, now with a 289 V8, into a completely different beast and documenting the build on air. Future plans for this unique build include updated suspension, power steering, optional A/C, power windows and locks, and optional in-dash touchscreen media system. While those mods are undeniably awesome, the best part is that the new electric motor will supposedly pack more power and punch than the original V8 installed back in 1966.

The car doesn’t have an owner yet, and if this is your perfect opportunity to nab an electric muscle car, the option to buy it is available. Not only will you have the coolest car in town, but you’ll get to appear on their television show as the owner, that is, if it is sold before the build is completed. You can buy the car here or contact HVHR directly through their website.

As far as the electric motor goes, the list includes a Warp 9 High Torque DC electric motor with EVnetics Soliton 1 with a 1,000-watt amplifier controller. The battery is a 34 kwh Lithium Ion Phosphate pack that will last 90 – 120 miles per full charge. The charge port is a J-1772 Standard EV charging station with billet aluminum inlet.

Buyer options include the body work and paint job, and also can upgrade to a Warp 11 motor for more torque. The in-dash touchscreen media center, air conditioning, keyless entry and remote start, front spoiler, neon lighting underneath the car, sequential style taillights, and a rear spoiler made of carbon fiber.

What do you think of an electric 1966 Ford Mustang? Would you rock it?
