First Shelby GT350R Raises $1,000,000 for JDRF At Barrett-Jackson

Last week we brought you news that Ford was donating the first Shelby GT350R for charity auction at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. The charity of Ford’s choice was the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Ford has a long-standing relationship with the JDRF, and it’s not the first time Ford has donated a car for the cause.

We’re happy to report the Shelby GT350R, VIN #001 went for a cool $1,000,000, as in one million dollars. The Shelby was auctioned at No Reserve, and all proceeds went to the JDRF. “We knew the auction of this coveted car would capture the attention of serious enthusiasts,” said Steve Ling, Ford North American Car Marketing manager. “This was one of the most exhilarating auctions to witness, and the winning bidder is taking home a piece of history.”

Of course, this particular Shelby GT350R will probably never be driven in anger, and be able to take full advantage of its flat-plane crankshaft 5.2L V8. The engine in the Shelby GT350R is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever built by Ford. Hopefully, at some point in VIN #001’s life, the owner gets to experience it at full song. We can only hope.
