The cars featured on Jay Leno’s Garage are top-of-the-line. After all, it is Leno that we’re talking about.
Recently, a unique ’69 Mustang Fastback was featured. Built by Bodie Stroud, custom hot-rod builder and owner of BS Industries, the Mustang is not one of Leno’s cars. However, it is so unique and note-worthy that Leno gave it the spotlight it deserves.
Stroud is known for his mechanical ability and artistic creativity when it comes to building cars. For the Mustang, Stroud completely cut the roof off and made a custom one to fit 2.5 inches lower on the car.
The stance of the Mustang is a bit bigger thanks to the rear end being widened and the car sitting on 18×15 inch tires. Other customizations to this car include the custom built chassis, upholstery modeled after the 2011 Mustang interiors and the custom created dash.
Even the tail lights were made specifically for this car.
Powering this custom Mustang is one of ten completely aluminum 494cui Boss engines. These engines were built for Mario Andretti’s Can-am car in 1969 and are personally signed by Andretti.
This engine produces 777hp and 596 pound-feet of torque. To create plenty of room for the engine, Stroud widened the engine bay by a full foot. Matted to the engine is a six-speed Tremac transmission.
The Mustang is also equipped with electric steering, electric Brembo brakes and a titanium air ride adjustable suspension.
While the Mustang has definitely been modified, it still stays true to many of its stock body lines. It is nice to see that there are still custom car builders in the industry that improve upon classic cars rather than completely change them through modifications.
