Blown 2018 Mustang Lowers Quarter-Mile Record

Everything was the same except a new tune and we changed the pilot to a lighter model. — Willie Diaz, MAK Performance

If you have followed the fast-paced race to lower e.t.’s with the 2018 Mustang, you know that power adders quickly put these impressive stallions in the 10-second zone. Since the 2018 cracked into that range, the numbers after the decimal have gotten smaller and smaller. Recently MAK Performance’s ProCharger-boosted 2018 Mustang GT automatic lowered its own record to 10.30 at 138 mph.

Regular readers know that this car quickly gained a ProCharger HO supercharger system and a few select bolt-ons, which propelled it to a 10.80 at 134 mph to claim the record of quickest second-gen S550 of the moment. With just minor tweaks to the existing combo, Willie Diaz and Adrian Gomez of MAK Performance were able to shave off several seconds.

“Everything was the same except a new tune and we changed the pilot to a lighter model,” Willie told us.

Clearly the updated calibration and, more importantly, losing over 100 pounds from the curb weight by installing Danny Fernandez behind the wheel in place of Adrian made the most of the current combo.

In the near future the MAK team will continue its quest for the 9-second zone by upgrading the torque converter in the car’s 10R80 automatic transmission and bolstering the fuel system to support even more boost, so don’t expect this record to stand for long.
