It’s amazing the stories owners give for not selling the musclecars left to rot on their property. They range from “I’ll get to eventually” to “it’s a project in progress” (yet no progress is ever made) or our personal favorite is a classic: “My daughter married a man with money and he is going to help me restore it.” This is the excuse Ed has been given when inquiring about this black 1969 Mustang Mach 1 for the last 10 years.

The Mach 1 was one of the six performance packages available for the Mustang in 1969 (the others being GT, Boss 302, Boss 429, Shelby GT 350 and Shelby GT 500). The Mach 1’s concept was simple a “sportsroof” musclecar with a 351 V-8 and plenty of exterior enhancements such as hood pins, a hood scoop (shaker or standard), a performance suspension, chrome exhaust tips, chin spoiler, a rear deck spoiler and rear windshield louvers.

The Mach 1 was an everyman package which included several engine options. Standard equipment was a 351 Windsor mated to a three speed manual and a 9-inch rear. Other options included the 351 Cleveland, the 390 FE and the massive 428 Cobra Jet motor. The Cobra Jet motor was available with the Drag Pack which included a 9-inch rear with 3.91 or 4.30 rear gears to burn rubber.

We have no idea when his son in-law is going to help restore this stallion, we do think if he hasn’t paid you after 10 years it’s time to cut bait and move on. Its a shame this Mach 1 is going to waste because it has minimal rust and is an original numbers matching ride. What excuses have you heard from owners not selling their cars?
