Enthusiasts around the world have been enjoying the 2018 Mustang GT for a better part of a year now, and one thing many of us can confirm is that the dual-fuel Coyote under its hood is no slouch in stock form. However, we also know that this refreshed S550 has plenty of untapped power just waiting to be unleashed. If you are looking for an easy way to add usable power to your lightly modified 2018 Mustang GT, then a hotter calibration is the place to start.
VMP has a great reputation for being able to deliver great power gains and awesome driveability with their tunes. — Stephanie Wood, AmericanMuscle
“If you are looking for a tuner for a 2018 Mustang GT that is either stock or has some basic bolt-on upgrades, the VMP REV-X Performance Programmer, Powered by SCT, comes with one custom tune from VMP,” said Stephanie.
In the video above, Stephanie shows how to load the VMP custom tune with the Rev-X Performance Programmer, as well as showing us all of the features of the SCT programmer including datalogging, setting up its gauge layout, and returning your vehicle back to the stock configuration.
We are currently running a similar SCT programmer on our own 2018 Mustang GT, and we can confirm just how easy it is to load a custom tune into your S550. Both SCT tuners that AmericanMuscle and our own 2018 Mustang GT feature built-in Wi-Fi capabilities making it easy to get firmware updates for the device. You can even connect to Wi-Fi and your calibrator can send tune updates directly to your device over the cloud.
The SCT tuner and VMP calibration (PN 404825; $599) is an affordable way to pick up horsepower and torque on a lightly modified vehicle.
“VMP has a great reputation for being able to deliver great power gains and awesome driveability with its tunes,” Stephanie said. “After we installed the C&L Racer cold air intake and paired it with the VMP Performance tune, our 2018 Mustang GT made 455 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. That makes for a peak gain of 22 horsepower and 8 lb-ft of torque.”
