2020 Ford Explorer Is Designed To Fit Your Tech-Savvy Lifestyle

This week, Ford Motor Company introduced the world to the all-new 2020 Explorer, and America’s best-selling Sports Utility Vehicle comes packed with enough innovative new features that even the most tech-savvy adventurist would be hard pressed not to take a closer look.

Ford’s new 2020 Explorer, which is expected to be available as early as summer 2019, has advanced new technology which is designed to heighten the overall experience of your next family adventure. More than a dozen new standard features will be available at launch, many of which were inspired by its loyal Blue Oval customers.

These updated features include a power liftgate, enhanced 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine as well as the addition of the successful 10-speed transmission across the entire vehicle lineup. An 8-inch digital touchscreen with SYNC 3 will keep drivers connected on their next road trip as well as the FordPass Connect Wi-Fi service which is capable of connecting up to 10 devices at a time.

“We obsessed about what Explorer customers need and want,” said Bill Gubing, Explorer Chief Engineer. “We met with customer groups, pored through internet forums, and dissected social media posts to determine what they love about today’s Explorer and understand their pain points. Then we found ways to improve it across the board. Every enhancement on this all-new Explorer was inspired by our customers.”

Additional Performance To Explore Your Environment

In addition to the advanced innovation that will help keep you connected, the new Explorer will come standard in a rear wheel drive architecture and will be available to order in both a two- and four-wheel drive configuration.

Owners opting to order the new SUV as a two-wheel drive hauler will get selectable drive modes including Normal, Sport, Trail, Slippery, Tow/Haul and Eco. Vehicles equipped with Ford intelligent four-wheel drive will also add a Deep Snow and Sand mode for additional performance off-road.

“A vehicle like the Explorer can’t just be good-looking,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager. “Explorer customers need it to do certain things. They need to be able to drive certain places and haul specific items. This Explorer performs no matter what adventure you have in store.”

Power When You Need It The Most

The new engine lineup will now feature two EcoBoost entries, both adding increased power and towing capability over the outgoing model. The first is a 2.3-liter turbocharged I4 that comes standard on base, XLT, and Limited models. The 2.3-liter engine is expected to produce 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and is capable of towing up to 5,300 pounds.

The top of the line Explorer Platinum will come standard with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Vehicles equipped with a 3.0-liter EcoBoost can tow up to 5,600 pounds, giving this vehicle a 12-percent increase over the outgoing model. The 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine is expected to produce 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
