Mounting steering columns in traditional hot rods can be problematic. There’s hardly a thought given to sealing out the ambient air and sealing in the air-conditioned or heated air in the passenger compartment. Builders have spent a lot of money on thermal mats to help with the issue, but all of that is wasted unless there is a solution for sealing the area around the steering column. JJ’S Hot Rods has it figured out with their E/Z Firewall Boots.

According to company spokesperson, Vivian Johnson, the E/Z Firewall Boot is “an elegant solution to an old problem. These boot seal kits are easily adaptable to different pedal, column, and firewall configurations.” The thought of keeping noise, heat, and dust out of the interior of a hot rod is one of those things that dreams are made of.

“These are also made in America,” Vivian said. “Steel Rubber makes the rubber parts, and a local machinist does the CNC machine components.” The down-and-dirty specs tell the story of these must-have firewall seals. The bezel is manufactured from 304 stainless with stainless screws that are chrome-plated, the rubber seal can be customized to fit anything from 5/8-inch to a full 2-inch diameter column. “It can be tailored to the car,” added Vivian. “The rubber boot fits round rods, rectangular rods, and square rods.”

When you add that the stainless steel won’t rust, it’s almost too good to be true, especially for hot rod enthusiasts that live in climates where it gets hot and dusty, or cold and wet. For more information about JJ’S Rods new E/Z Firewall Boots, visit them online at
