SEMA 2015: Koni Partners With Eibach For New Applications

If you are familiar with improving the handling characteristics of a sports car, then you are probably familiar with the name Koni. For a number of years Koni has been one of top builders of high-quality dampeners, leaving the construction of springs to other leading spring manufacturers. Typically a customer would source each item independently and was left to figure out the correct pairings.

Koni decided to change that, and Lee Grimes was happy to fill us in. “We now have a partnership with Eibach Springs, which we are very excited about. In our industry we know that 60 to 70 percent of our dampeners will be matched with a set of lowering springs. Ultimately, people buy lowering springs to drop the car, and within a short period of time discover the factory dampeners aren’t very good. They then buy them, pay for another shipment, and end up paying for installation a second time. So, our thought was that if we can do an authorized matched set, the customer comes out ahead.”

Not a bad idea we thought, and while we know that this idea was done in the past with H&R, the folks at Koni are excited for the possibilities lie ahead. Grimes walked us around the booth at the 2015 SEMA Show further explaining, “We also have a 2015 Mustang prototype, one that we were the first in the industry to have. We have not yet tested these dampeners, but hope to have testing completed around the end of the first-quarter of 2016. The ND Miata application is also new to our market.” Considering the number of Mustangs and Miatas involved in performance driving applications, we are sure these will be a hit.
