PRI 2016: Wiseco Boostline Connecting Rods Rethink Design

Technology for connecting rods certainly hasn’t grown in leaps and bounds the way other facets of performance engine technology has, of course we have seen advancements in materials and processes over the decades, but fundamental design ideologies have been largely stagnant until recently.

The good ‘ole I-beam, H-beam, and billet aluminum rods serve the needs of a diverse applications but as we drive forward modifying culture demands better designs. We stopped by Wiseco at PRI to check out their brand new “Boostline” connecting rods and we excited to talk about the theory behind their conception.

“Basically H-beams like to twist and I-beams like to squish, so this takes the best of both worlds and merges them into one. Versus our competitors on the market it’s actually a little bit lighter than an I-beam and a little heavier than an H-beam, and is intended as a power-adder rod for big power,” explained Mark Gearhart of Wiseco.

Understanding these dynamic properties of the design structure, the engineers at Wiseco decided to incorporate pocketing and support.

“The V8 applications we are rating to over 2,000 horsepower. The three-pocket design is patent pending and it comes standard with ARP 2000 hardware and bushed small end. We have upgrades to the 625 aged bolts if you’re making a lot of power,” Gearhart continued.

For those looking for another option in rotating assemblies, the Boostline rods are worth a look. With applications spanning just about anything commonly built for power it’s likely Wiseco has a set to fit your needs.

“Everything is going to be application based rather than custom, but we’ll probably look into it in the future. We’re taking orders now and our first shipment will be ready to go in two weeks. Everything is FEA tested and finished in the USA,” Gearhart concluded.
