Wandering the halls of hardcore racing parts at PRI we sure come across a lot of LS stuff, but if you’re more of the modular persuasion, then the Manley Performance booth hard some goodies in store for you. Manley is know for their internal engine components and has had a big presence int he market for pistons and rods on Ford modular platforms, but if you needed a crank you had to look elsewhere.
This year at PRI we stopped by to talk with Trip Manley about their new 4.6-liter Ford modular crank. “It’s basically constructed the same as our other cranks, it’s a 4340 forged crank with a nitride process for added strength,” Manley started.
“We’ve got material in the right places, and one of the biggest things we’re doing is we’re trying to give guys that requires less work on the balancing side. We’re trying to make it so it;s more user-friendly for the end builder.”
While the contingent of 4.6 enthusiasts is certainly being eclipsed by Coyote fans, there are still diehards that are dedicated tot he craft of making power before the 5.0 Coyote. For these enthusiasts a complete package can now be had from Manley.
“We’ve been talking about doing a modular crank for a long time, mostly because we’re so dominant on the pistons and the rods, so now we can offer a whole rotating assembly,” Manley continued.
But for all of you looking to build something that can go toe to toe with the competition on the Coyote side, keep your eyes peeled because according to Manley it’s coming. “We don’t have a 5.4, but ultimately we’d like to come out with a Coyote application,” he concluded.
