For 20 years, Forgeline has created custom wheels for performance and racing applications. These environments demand reduced weight and increased durability from a wheel. With plenty of experience refining its design, materials and processes it’s clear why the company’s wheels meet those needs on a pair of new Mustangs and just about any modern sports car.
A ringing endorsement for these wheels comes courtesy of Ford Performance, which selected a custom version of Forgeline’s GS1R wheel for its turnkey race car, the 2017 Mustang GT4. This car is designed to compete in racing series around the globe, including IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Pirelli World Challenge and the GT4 European Series.
Featuring a V-spoke design, the 18×11-inch GS1R wheels on the GT4 are a forged, one-piece monoblock design, designed with computer simulation software to deliver a great balance of strength and lightweight. They are also said to be 40-percent stronger than a cast aluminum wheel, which is crucial on a race-bred Mustang like the GT4.
Not just the choice for a racer like the GT4, Forgeline was also tapped to provide its SC3C-SL wheels for the 2017 lineup of Richard Petty 80th Tribute Edition Ford Mustang GTs. This run of 500 custom Mustangs built as result of relationship between Ford and Petty’s Garage.
“This is a true honor for us, as Richard Petty is the most accomplished driver in the history of NASCAR racing,” Forgeline Motorsports President David Schardt said. “As such, ‘The King’ knows that only extremely light yet unquestionably strong wheels can truly complement such a vehicle as this very special limited run of 80th Tribute Edition Mustang GTs. We’re very proud our wheels were selected by one of the most respected figures in motorsports.”
While the wheels run on these Mustangs are both light and durable, Forgeline Motorsports is also showing of a truly innovative line of wheels in Indianapolis that combines its expertise in forgings with EMERGENT Carbon Wheels specialty in the high-tech composite. The result of that melding is the new Carbon+Forged Series designed for a host of modern sports cars.
As you might imagine, the Carbon+Forged wheels feature lightweight carbon barrels joined to forged aluminum centers. Said to be 42-percent lighter than an equivalent aluminum wheel, they reduced weight at the perimeter, which can benefit acceleration, braking, ride quality and more. First in this line of wheels are the new CF201 and the flashy CF202, which are both available in 20- and 21-inch fitments.
Not only do they look good, but they handily passed SAE and TUV testing for durability, including the AK-LH 08 Radial Impact Test. We would certainly love to see these innovative designs on a custom Mustang in the future.
