The Top 5 Ford Mustangs Of SEMA 2013

It’s been a long, hard week, but finally we can put SEMA 2013 into the books. We saw all manner of automobiles on the show floor, including dozens of Ford-badged vehicles brought by both the Blue Oval itself and numerous aftermarket entities.

Of course the star of the show was once again the Ford Mustang, winning the Hottest Car award for the second year in a row. There were plenty of Ford pony cars on display at SEMA this year, and they ran the gamut from mild to wild to totally out there. In the end though, we had to narrow it down to our Top 5 favorite Mustangs from SEMA 2013, and love it or hate it, this is our list for our website.

#5) 2014 Mustang GT By Nitto Tire

With 420 horsepower on tap and 390 ft-lbs of torque, the stock 2014 Ford Mustang GT is the fastest, most powerful Mustang GT ever built. But Nitto Tire went even further, expanding the aggressive look and raw power that is the last of the current generation Mustangs with performance and visual enhancements that can’t be topped.

Rather than just strap on some forced induction though, Nitto took the road less traveled by adding a Cobra Jet intake manifold from Ford Racing, as well as a billet 65mm throttle body and air intake. A Tune Logics tune and a Gibson X-pipe exhaust system join a host of suspension enhancements from Steeda and Wilwood, though just a handful of exterior modifications were made to the 2014 Mustang’s look. As far as the tires and wheels go, the Mustang wears Niche Vicenza 3-piece 20-inch wheels wearing Nitto NT05 rubber. It’s a strong start to a muscular list.

#4) Hollywood Hot Rods 2014 Mustang Convertible

Coming in at fourth place is a car that built up a lot of hype before its official unveiling, and delivered on that hype (and then some). We are talking about of course Hollywood Hot Rods rendition on the 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible.

Hollywood Hot Rods went beyond the usual custom paint and bolt-on performance parts, and instead sunk more than 400 hours into a custom built body that looks great and seriously enhances performance. But the real centerpiece is the folding aluminum roof, and under the hood is a supercharged Coyote 5.0 making more than 600 horsepower. It’s an unforgettable ride at an unforgettable show.

#3) Creations ‘n’ Chrome Top Notch Mustang

While hatchbacks were all the rage in the 1980s, Ford also offered a coupe, or notchback version of the famed Fox-body Mustang, and our number three favorite from SEMA 2013 is the Top Notch Mustang by Creations ‘n’ Chrome. Under the hood is an 850 horsepower supercharged Ford Racing Aluminator engine, while lightweight carbon fiber body pieces help shed weight from this already-light ride.

Gary Watson, owner of Creations ‘n’ Chrome said, “I’ve owned several as a kid, but they were always used and didn’t make the power or handled the way I wanted. Now that I’m older and can afford to play around a little bit, I’m kind of re-living my childhood and I built what I feel is the ultimate Fox body Mustang.”

That’s why he also paid special attention to the looks of their notchback Fox-body, adding a ‘93 Cobra front end and carbon fiber flared front fenders and rear quarters that give it that widebody look and function. The Race Red exterior is enhanced by carefully blacked-out bits, and Top Notch looks every bit like the racing Mustangs of yesteryear that surely inspired it.

#2) Ring Brothers Carbon Fiber ‘66 Mustang

What can be said about the Ring Brothers that hasn’t already been said? These two have managed to make a lot of waves in the Mustang world in recent years, and their 2013 SEMA entry is perhaps the ultimate take on a classic Mustang. Yes, we’re talking about the almost-entirely carbon fiber ‘66 Mustang the Ring Brothers built.

This Mustang was built to highlight the new production carbon fiber body panels the Ring Brothers will be producing. While pricing hasn’t been announced yet, the Ring Brothers will offer these lightweight body panels that can be bonded to the steel unibody for ‘65 and ‘66 Mustangs, taking these classic designs into the 21st century. This is a market primed to explode, and the Ring Brothers show that once again, they’re looking well into the future.

#1) Ryan Venturine’s Fastback ‘65

That brings us to a car that we almost all agreed was the best Mustang at this year’s SEMA show, though it was one that flew under the radar in the weeks leading up to the Las Vegas event. Ryan Venturine’s fastback ‘65, built by Scott’s Hot Rods and Customs, brought powerful elegance to the SEMA show with its unique look and incredible drivetrain.

The all-steel body was custom fabricated, and the roof was subtly chopped for a lower-slung look. Under the hood is a ROUSH 427 V8 with injection stacks making an eye-popping 660 horsepower and 610 ft-lbs of torque. Venturine’s Mustang rides on a custom tube chassis, and the suspension is just as impressive as the rest of the car.

Sure, it isn’t the most powerful or most expensive Mustang at the SEMA show, but it sure was our favorite. What was your favorite Mustang of SEMA 2013?
