Thousands Of Mustangs Flock To The AmericanMuscle Charity Car Show

For a decade now, AmericanMuscle’s celebration of the original pony car has drawn massive crowds to its backyard for a one-day mega event. This year’s AM car show, held on Father’s Day weekend, was no different. More than 2,300 Mustangs and 8,000 spectators filled Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, and raised six figures for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

The chance for us to contribute to granting the wishes of so many kids is the entire reason we hold the AM car show every year. — Adam Maqboul, AmericanMuscle

“A decade ago, before my time at AmericanMuscle, the car show was just a couple dozen cars in the AM parking lot with a much smaller group of people. Over the years it’s grown into the biggest Mustang car show in the country at the Maple Grove Raceway, with people traveling 12-18 hours from all over to attend,” Adam Maqboul, Video Host and Writer at AmericanMuscle, explained. “It’s pretty amazing seeing how much our customers love what the show has become. This year we had a woman drive up from Florida to attend and compete in our burnout competition. That’s not something we would’ve dreamed of 10 years ago, so it’s definitely grown a lot!”

In addition to the cars and fans, several notable aftermarket manufacturers that supply products to AmericanMuscle were on hand. Anderson Composites, BBK Performance, Kooks Custom Exhaust, Mishimoto, Pypes, and VMP Performance (which sponsored the drag racing) all had displays on the property. Exhaust specialist Corsa offered installations of its products in exchange for MAW donations.

Mustangs from near and far traveled to attend the event. From Canada to Florida, enthusiasts traveled to participate in an celebration that is far more than just a car show. Its racetrack venue allows a wide variety of activities, from exhibition drag passes and burnout contests to exhaust-revving competitions and dyno contests.

The cars started lining up as the sun rose, and eventually over 2,000 Mustangs filled Maple Grove Raceway at the AM 2018 car show.

“This year was especially great. The weather turned out amazing, and the crowd was the biggest we’ve had yet. I’d say having Super Bowl champ and Eagles Defensive Tackle Fletcher Cox at the show and helping host the Make-A-Wish parade was one of the top highlights,” Adam enthused. “The revving competition is always a blast too — having people pull up next to each other and go head-to-head to see who’s got the more aggressive sounding setup is a crowd favorite.”

From the drag racing, revving contest, and dyno testing, there was plenty to see and hear at the 2018 show.

In the end, Travis Fulton’s Race Red 2017 GT took the honors as the loudest ‘Stang at the show in the Flowmaster-sponsored revving contest. Meanwhile, in the Rev-X dyno competition Matt Marsen’s twin-turbo Terminator put down the biggest number with 950 horsepower at the wheels. For those who enjoy a smoke show, Alex Giroux took the win in the McLeod burnout competition thanks to billowing clouds of orange smoke spewing from the rear quarters of his Fox.

“It’s extremely important for Turn5 to partner with and support Make-A-Wish. The chance for us to contribute to granting the wishes of so many kids is the entire reason we hold the AM car show every year,” Adam said. “When we build a Mustang or Jeep to fulfill a wish and see their reaction, that’s what makes it important.”

While most of the event was Mustangcentric, the focus is clearly charitable, so AM’s sister store, ExtremeTerrain presented a MAW grantee named Earl with a fully restored and upgraded TJ Wrangler. When it was all said and done, the crowds had a great time an the event raised $117,068 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, which added to the tally of more than $360,000 that AM’s parent company, Turn 5, has donated to the charity.

There are always special guests at the AM show, and this year a Super Bowl champion, and noted Mustang drag team owner, was on hand signing autographs. That’s right, Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was on the property at this year’s show.

If you haven’t attended one of these shows, it’s definitely one to add your plans, and we are sure the AmericanMuscle team is already working feverishly to put something special together for 2019.

“We don’t have the show dates just yet, but because it was so beautiful this year and not blazing hot like AM 2016, I think we’ll probably be shooting for another June show,” Adam added. “Expect the same events to make a return — revving, burnout, races, and dyno competitions — because they just are too much fun to not bring back. As for anything else, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!”
