Blue Oval Muscle Makes A Strong Showing At The MidFlorida Auto Show

In a picturesque downtown setting, cars of all makes and models fill the streets and surround a lake. There are a stunning array of concours rarities mixing it up with modern street machines and vintage muscle cars. In its 19th year, the MidFlorida Auto Show & Lake Mirror Concours takes over Lakeland, Florida, for three days of automotive enjoyment, which ran from October 19-21 this year.

These two cars stopped your scribe in his tracks. Perfectly maintained and as rare as a winning lottery ticket, these two Fords were entered by Rick Schmidt of National Parts Depot fame. The Highland Green 1968 Shelby GT500KR was fully restored by Lloyd’s Auto Restorations and is one of only 1,053 built. Meanwhile, the 1968 Ford Torino is all-original and has never been titled or registered. It only has 12 miles on the clock. (Photo Credit: Steve Turner)

Ranging from a Hot Rod Rendezvous on Friday night to 50-mile road rally on Sunday, its events are headlined by the big show on Saturday. Since the MidFlorida event began it has garnered support from a host of local businesses, but the enthusiasts at National Parts Depot have supported it the whole way. As such, its owners Jim and Rick Schmidt served as Honorary Chairmen for the 2018 iteration.

Among the modern Fords, this 2016 Shelby GT-H stood out. It also earned a Sponsor’s Choice award from Visit Central Florida. Proudly displayed by Richard and Deanna Shick (below), this rare rental car is one of only 171 built that year. Big fans of these Rent-A-Racers, the couple was in the process of acquiring another example that was once owned by an executive at Hertz and fit with a supercharger. They hope to display the two cars together in the future, but in the meantime, Deanna was wearing a matching GT-H polo that only the executives received.

Naturally, Rick brought along a couple of rare and stunning Fords from the family collection for display at the show. These and a host of other Blue Oval machines attracted the attention of our camera lens, so be sure to check out the full gallery of Fords from the show below…
