There’s a lot of oil in the Middle East, and with a barrel of crude trading at around $105, you can bet there is a lot of American dollars flowing into countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. There is also a steady stream of American muscle cars flowing into these countries, where it seems like every other person owns a Ferrari or Bentley, and the only way to stand out is with a completely customized, totally outlandish ride that nobody could (or would want to) copy.
Skip ahead to the 30-second mark in this next video, and you’ll see a totally chromed-out vehicle clad in a ridiculous body kit. That poor vehicle was a Mustang, though it looks like somebody dropped it on the chassis of a 1930’s Bugatti.
Unfortunately, that is probably the look this particular oil baron was going for. At first we didn’t think it could possibly be a Mustang with the wide fender flares, weird taillights, and chrome cover for the full-size spare tire. But if you look at the roof line, it is without a doubt a 2005+ Mustang under all that chrome and body kit.
Obviously this is a man of great wealth and little taste…and an important bigwig too. The video zooms in on the license plate, and you can see that there is just a single number, “1.” These plates are often reserved for members of the royal family, though they are sometimes auctioned off to the highest bidder. In Saudi Arabia the #5 plate went for nearly $7 million.
How much this custom chrome Mustang cost, we haven’t a clue. Too much, if you ask us…but there’s an ass for every seat, as the old saying goes. And at least his car will be easy to find in a parking lot. It’ll be the shining beacon of bad taste.
