StangTV Launches 2015 Mustang EcoBoost Project Car

We pride ourselves here at StangTV on bringing our readers the latest in the Mustang world. We cover the latest news on Mustangs, and the latest trends. For 2015, Ford rolled out an all new Mustang, and while the Coyote engine saw some changes, they weren’t sweeping alterations to that platform.

All new to the Mustang this year however, is the EcoBoost engine. Delivering 310 hp and 320 ft-lbs of torque, the EcoBoost delivers just 10 fewer ponies than the 1999 and 2001 Cobra, and more than the 1994-1998 cars. The EcoBoost represents a shift in the way we have to think about the Mustang. While scoffers will say it can’t be a “real” Mustang with just four cylinders under the hood, most would agree that a lighter, powerful engine in this all new chassis is incredibly fun to drive. This new app may also bring in buyers to the Mustang, that have never looked at the car before. At a price nearly $10,000 below a new Mustang GT, it’s an attractive proposition.

The EcoBoost also represents new opportunities for Mustang enthusiasts. This is a brand new engine to explore. Something the aftermarket must develop parts for, and an all new learning curve. That is why, we decided for our next StangTV project car, to purchase a 2015 Mustang EcoBoost Performance Pack. We’ve already explored the Coyote pretty in-depth. While we will continue to do tech, and stories with that platform, our 2015 Mustang EcoBoost project car, complete with Performance Pack, represents an opportunity for StangTV to explore this new engine.

We made the trip to Cincinnati, Ohio, to see our buddy Terry Beefcake Reeves. Beefcake and Editor Creason go back to the early days of NMRA, and with Beefcake’s place of work, Beechmont Ford, just a short drive away, it was a no-brainer to head up there for the car.

Our Race Red car will serve as daily driver, and also weekends for the track and drag strip. We’ll be working on a variety of projects with this car in the months and years ahead, exploring both the EcoBoost and the S550 platform.

Our Race Red Eco has yet to be granted a project car name. We’ve tossed around a few ideas, but none have stuck yet. Tell us your thoughts on a name, story ideas, questions, and expectations below.
