The pink Cadillac has nothing to fear, but the next time some slick chick pulls up beside you in a black 2012 Mustang, it could be carrying a trunk full of cosmetics. At a company convention in Texas this week, the car was introduced and enthusiastically received by the independent beauty consultants attending.
A two year lease on the vehicle is awarded to consultants that achieve a particular level of cosmetic sales in a year. Those who hit the $100K mark will turn in their Mustang for the iconic pink Cadillac. According to reports, the Mustangs will sport some pink accessories to distinguish them from regular ponies.
The organization has seen a 9.5 per cent increase in the number of beauty consultants and April of this year was their highest sales month on record. Globally, the Mary Kay business is worth $2.5 billion anually.
After researching the alternatives available, the Mustang was selected as the car that “beautifully blends style and sport, with functionality and durability,” according to Yvette Franco, Vice President of U.S. Marketing for Mary Kay. While the Mustang may not beat out the former car, Chevrolet’s Malibu, for trunk space, the company’s beauty consultants will be able to get to their next appointment a lot more quickly.
