How much horsepower does a bone-stock, 1992 Mustang GT make in 2017? Not much. Considering that back in ’92, Ford rated the Mustang GT at 225 horsepower, it seems this Fox hasn’t aged one bit. For that’s 25 years old with more than 240,000 original miles on its odometer, 224 horsepower at the flywheel on JBA Speed Shop‘s dyno really isn’t all that bad.
History tells us that this Fox is probably on that dyno for a reason, too. That reason is obvious — mods, mods, and more mods! After all, the owner can be confident that this GT had a proper break-in period now that it’s crossed nearly a quarter of a million miles.
Jokes aside, what is the first modification you would perform on this high mileage Fox? If you’re Terry “Beefcake” Reeves at Team Beefcake Racing, you throw a Vortech supercharger on it. We’re a bit less ambitious than Terry, though to be fair, he has an 8-second Mustang. so it’s safe to say he knows what he’s doing.
If it were our call, we’d probably start out with the basics and work our way up to some forced induction. Heck, we might even do something crazy, like a high-horsepower, high-compression, naturally aspirated build. How would a naturally aspirated, 408ci Windsor sitting between the shock towers of this Fox sound to you? We like the sound of that.
