The grudge racing scene that exists in various locales around the country tends to be a intense environment unsuitable for a day at the races with the family. Often, large amounts of money are on the line in head-to-head and side bets, and gambling types take their money very seriously. Tempers flare and words we cannot publish are spoken.
On the flip side of the coin, however, the grudge scene is where you’ll find drag racing in its purest of forms.
There are no dial-ins, no elapsed times, no speeds, and very few rules that are often negotiated by the competing parties. Aside from the use of electronics to start the race and end the race, this is old school Main Street drag races on a closed course.
We’re not sure who the drivers were in the match captured in this clip by the crew at 1320 Video during the King Of The Streets (KOTS) VII at Great Lakes Dragaway in Wisconsin, but the result was one of the oddest outcomes of any drag race we’ve ever witnessed, and clearly floored everyone in attendance. Suffice it to say though, none were more shocked than the crew of the car in the near lane that lost 10,000 bones on this wild drag race that they had in the bag.
When that kind of money is on the line, you never lift.
