Just two weeks ago, Pro Modified and doorslammer racing veteran Todd Tutterow publicly unveiled his sharp new 1967 GT500 Mustang, constructed at Larry Jeffers Pro Cars in Missouri and soon to grace the ADRL Pro Extreme field, and over the weekend, made his initial shakedown and testing hits on the new piece in preparation for it’s competition debut. And with the Farmington Dragway just a few miles down the road from his Yadkinville, NC home, what better place to christen the new beast.
When it comes to supercharged doorslammers, few possess more know-how than Tutterow, and so it comes as no surprise that on the first full pull on the Mustang, “King Tutt” cranked off an astounding 3.733 at 208.68 miles per hour. And according to reports but presently unconfirmed, recorded an even quicker 3.68 at 209.95 with a killer .885 short time on the next lap. Nonetheless, Tutterow has served notice that he’ll be tougher than ever as the ultra lightweight new Mustang makes it’s debut at the ADRL Speedtech U.S. Drags IV this weekend at the Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond.
Tutterow, who recently parted ways with the formidable Al-Anabi Racing camp with whom he received backing from for the last year and a half, currently sits fourth in the Pro Extreme points standings, 613 back from leader Jason Hamstra. If the early testing results in less than favorable conditions are are indication, keep and eye on this Mustang we head into the cooler month’s of the season.
