Matusek made his long-awaited Get Screened America Pro Modified series debut at the Houston event, where he missed making the show by just spots, recording a best of 6.23 seconds at 235.89 miles per hour in an outing that he described as a definite success and learning experience.

From there, with his hometown race, the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, not one of the events hosting the Pro Modified category, Matusek returned to his sportsman roots be entering his new machine in Competition Eliminator before friends, family, and customers at the track located just over an hour from the Aeromotive facility. Entered in the BB/AT category, Matusek opened qualifying with an impressive 6.28 at a booming 242.89 miles per hour (-0.511 under the index) on a pass in which he was forced to pedal to keep the rocket ship on course. Despite bowing out with an opening round red light and being forced to lift as car took a right turn at the hit, Matusek appears to be making gradual gains toward the performance and consistency needed to run with the rabid pack in Pro Modified.

For those not up to speed on Matusek’s new ride, the Larry Larson Race Cars-built Mustang is propelled by a revolutionary Pro Stock-derived, 500 cubic inch Roush/Yates Ford powerplant sporting a set of turbochargers out front.
